In the Episcopal Church, Confirmation is supposed to be a sacrament of initiation that strengthens the grace we have received at our Baptism, it is supposed to be a marking of a deepening of one's own personal commitment to a Christian life. In the bourgeoisie South it's seen as kind of a social stepping stone. A young girl's Confirmation is often seen as a foreshadowing to her own Debutant Ball. A girl from a bourgeois family would often be Confirmated at age twelve, and at age sixteen or seventeen she would become a debutante. What is a debutante?

Our picket line was a mile and half from the main camp. It took me around forty five minutes to reach the line. I was surrounded by total darkness. It seemed not a soul was around for miles. We repeated our morning ritual of lustful sex and showering together. I put on a bra, panties, and a red poppy festival dress, with loafers. Fixed breakfast, read the paper, and lounged.

Diana was excited to drive her new Escape to a 10 AM hair appointment. Late morning, Diana sent a text: “Please prepare dinner for 4. Details later.”

I responded: “Message received.”

I could not believe the reflection that greeted me in the mirror. The smooth glass surface reflected the image of a young woman, one with golden blonde hair, sparkling blue eyes. This young woman wore a powder blue dress that had a rose colored silken sash tied around the waist. And on her dainty feet were leather sandals that had thin strips of leather wrapping around her ankles.
