My name is Jeff but for years now and then I get these compulsions to see myself as a girl. It has become a growing ongoing tension between me and my parents that was supposed to be a thing of the past. It was two weeks before school let out for Christmas break, and I had an urge to be sick at school. I worked myself up to be sick so I could get sent home from school. I had weeks ago found some clothes a friend was throwing out and I had taken them, without anyone knowing but not yet had a chance to try them on.

The lovers are welcoming people they have never met into their home for the party of a lifetime. Their excitement was almost so strong that it could be bottled and sold as a cocktail!

I’m going over things in my head and figuring out songs when I hear Rayne sort of mumble curse.

“What? What’s up?”

“I think we’re being followed?”

“Huh?”

“Yeah, and I think it’s those guys from the other night it looks like their truck.”

I look back in the mirror and it’s hard to tell because last time it had been so dark out but I just have this feeling that it is. I call Mike on the phone.

“Mike?”

“Yeah?”

“That truck is it following us?”

“I noticed, I think it is.”

It’s a pure moment.

Sunshine and love and me just really able to be myself and still loved by my father who’s holding me in my arms. Like I said I swear that I could feel my Mom’s presence with us in this whole moment.

Our first real father daughter talk and one that left me feeling loved and treasured. What girl big or little can say that that’s not something that I’ll treasure forever?

I curl almost into Rayne spooning into her hip and smiling at her and we’re kissing and she’s tearing up still and crying and I go from kissing her to wrapping my arms around her and pressing my chest to her side and slipping myself under her arm but I pull her closer to me and even as angel I hold her in that same way as my Dad does.

It’s just me…I’m Angel…and she’s said that Angel is boy plus some and at the same time maybe I can also be a girl plus some too. I hold her gently but with enough care and strength that she’s safe.

I take several steps back and let Rayne come in and she’s nervous in that bite her lower lip don’t know what to do with your hands way. Oh I’m so getting that right about now. She comes in and I take stock of things I’m just wearing a nightshirt too and my panties and I usually only wear the panties to bed. I generally don’t need anything well to protect my girls since they’re on the dresser.

“Uhm maybe I should get into a bra? If that’d help?”

“No, just be you…I don’t want to make you feel uncomfortable in your own bed.”

Hours to go…. The lovers have to prepare their home for the party-goers and themselves for being the reception Committee. So much to do, and so little time!

I’m not sure if I’m punchy from the pain or the adrenaline but I am bizarrely having a good time sort of hiding slumped in the back seat of Jeff’s car while he drives us to him condo and he’s muttering the whole way.

I would have been perturbed by him doing this before but since my latest mutation shift and my body sort of catching up to my age it’s actually kind of cute. It does make me wonder though if it’s like hormones and brain chemistry or the fact that we’ve had sex together.

“Mikey’s got some new friends.”

“Those fucking losers? C’mon.”

“No exactly those fucking losers they’re cranked all to shit and they don’t exactly look like they’re the sharpest knives in the drawer.”

Chapter 38

You know there are times when you know without a shadow of a doubt when someone’s in love with you. I wake up in bed with Alex and I know it so deep I’m having one of my Ow my heart moments right off the bat.

I cried, I cried all the little kid tears that we hide away in real life. I lost my Dad and my life became this goddamned horror show. But really…mostly because I was really scared to death to…I never got to mourn him.

I like this as sort of tired as I am I really like this. Rayne’s kissing me and I’m kissing her and she’s on top straddling me. I mean it’s damn sexy as anything but it’s sort of not guy and girl sexual. She’s straddling my waist and her bottom is sort of resting on the top part of my pubic bone and she’s almost got that seal that girl get like that…the way she just sort of dovetailed to me.

Her hands are running over me and touching me…I like that, I like the intimacy of being touched and I go with it.

Since the fire in our elementary school happened in the late summer, we all had to start this year in new schools. I was supposed to start the sixth grade this year, but since I’m one of the ‘brains’ they decided to have me skip a grade and start junior high school a year sooner.

Great, just what I didn’t want to happen. I mean I was the smallest in my class as it was; now, I’ll be the smallest in the whole darn school! Another year of utter torment, once I leave the house, get to the bus stop, the ride to school on the bus, and thankfully, quickly if at all possible into my classroom. I hope that the teacher will be there and I will be left alone. Safe until lunchtime, when again I am on the defensive until I make it into the library. Yes, I spend my lunchtime at the library, much safer and a lot more peaceful than anywhere else in school. After my so-called lunch and recess break, I wait for the last minute and head back to class. I wait with the others to board the bus; the ride home is anything but peaceful as the girls all the way home tease me.

Trina nodded. “Like I said before, I’m still not ready for Trina to be exposed to the rest of the school like, officially.” She sighed. “Sometimes it still feels like Trina’s taking over my life.”

It takes a few minutes for me to get a hold of myself after Mike does that whole serenade to Brooklyn and I’ll admit it. I went all sniffly melty and girly about the whole thing. I mean…I guess that it does say things about me doesn’t it.
