Chapter III - A Surprise Date

"Don't be mad, sweetie," she replied, offering me my martini. "I told you I would take care of everything. And I think I did. Here you are at a wonderful new restaurant where everyone thinks you're a woman and you haven't spent even one moment thinking about passing, have you?"

She was right - the sneaky bitch. She had swept me along so adroitly that I never did have a chance to worry. "But they think I'm a lesbian," I whispered back, although I had no idea why I said it.

"So? You are, aren't you? A woman who loves a woman?"

I fell in love with David in high school and married him right after college. What was it about him that I loved so much? In this chapter: A very big step.

I sat with Simon for about an hour. We didn't say much we were both upset, he cuddled me and I fussed him. We both cried. We both held each other. We both spent several minutes staring into space, or found the leaves of a dandelion suddenly very attention holding.

I came to in another room. I was alone and scared out of my mind. I had no clue as to where I was, or if anybody knew, I was awake. I couldn’t move again and I could only see the ceiling in my room. I guess I woke up when I heard a familiar voice raised in anger. I couldn’t quite understand what was said, but there was a lot of noise then a door closed. I heard snickering and laughter as the sound faded. Eventually I found the call button and managed to press it. The quiet room suddenly burst with activity as a nurse, a doctor and some other people came running in. I found out that I was at Primary Children’s Hospital back in Salt Lake City, and I was back in the ICU.

I opened it up and pulled out an eight by ten-inch photograph - a photograph of me - in full drag. I was dressed to the nines, wearing a bright red spaghetti strap cocktail dress that was made out of tiered layers of chiffon.

“The Duke dabbles in the unholy bloody, magical arts. Some of the more powerful spells of such evil require the blood of a royal blood line or even the sacrifice of a royal.”
“How, Taelah, do you know of such unholy rites?”
“As I have said, Sergeant, we have reliable sources.” Taelah met his gaze as an equal.
This Taelah was telling the truth, but not all of it. Takoda thought. She is hiding something...
