Synopsis

Travelling from the golden city of Tier to the town of Carrick Field in western Alband would take nearly five days on horseback, but using their connections with the Whitewater Cartel, Jaden and her friends secure passage on a riverboat to get them there more quickly.

Flashback: Jaden and Oleander hadn't imagined what it would be like to go on a real adventure, but only weeks after their first meeting in Tarad the opportunity sat down at their table during a particularly busy night at the Count of Cups tavern in Carrick Field.

In 2019 the world was rocked by the second great depression. This one was much worse than the one in 1929 when the American president at the time said he saw one third of americans, ill-housed, ill-clad, ill-nourished. In 2021, over 50 percent of Americans were jobless and homeless. For a few years, the government of the united states and other world leaders put trillions into the world market in the form of bailouts trying to jump start the economy. All efforts ended in failure and by 2030 when the unemployment surpassed seventy five percent, they realized they had to try something new. But they didn’t know what to do. But, there were some who did have a plan. Later in 2032, the top businesses and corporations banded together, had a big meeting and came up with a plan and proposed it to their governments of the world. The plan was that the governments cede entire economic control and limited civil authority, to them and they would take the world out of the second great depression.

Chapter 31

*Before…

“You’re expecting the guilds to co-operate?”
“Yes and no, we get the information in secret, we offer good clean coin for it and we don’t charge them or even get in the way of them doing business.”
“You won’t, why?”
“Because the guilds are part of the kingdom too, because we need an underground economy as much as the real one and the people will not do better if Lyam takes the throne and imposes his laws on everyone.”
Ryann gives me the look he did in the cells.
“Right, then you have me with you.”
“Good, because this will become a whole lot larger than it sounds before we’re done.”
I move to the door when I hear the knock and let them in with his clothes and the writing equipment and he’s changing as I’m laying stuff out.
“We should get started…”
I turned and he dropped the towel at his waist and is getting into the clothes they brought.
Apparently he’s not bashful.
