Chapter One

“Oh, I thought you’d be a man.”

I sighed. It wasn’t the first time, and it probably wouldn’t be the last time I would hear those words. With my slight build, narrow face, long dark hair held in a ponytail as per Health and Safety regulations, and topped off with the Corby’s Plumbing baseball cap, I looked, to say the least, androgynous. It wasn’t unusual for me to be mistaken for a girl, so I flashed a smile at the woman and asked her if she knew where her stopcock was.

For 35yrs the border between the Human Empire and Gorgonzola Empire as remained mostly peaceful. The citizens for the Human Empire of this border region are loyal to the last man, woman, and child to the Empire. It was on one of these worlds that gave birth to a legend. The world of Apollo 6 is one of the harshest worlds within the Empire. One so harsh that only it could claim to be the birth world of James J. Owens, the most feared of Death Dealers. Stupidly, I missed the Italian trip, for the simple but crucial fact that I didn’t have a passport.
