“Did you sleep much?” Brynna’s standing behind me, doing something with my hair. I’ve finished showering and I’m mostly dressed for the day, save for the white apron that’s sitting folded on the table beside me. I manage to shake my head slightly, and tell her no. “Well there’s nothing to do for it,” I can hear the shrug in her voice as she braids the hair on the side of my head and loops it around the back to connect it with a braid she’s made on the other side.

“Thank you,” I say to her softly.

“For what, dear?” She asks, humming to herself.

Chapter 19

Back at home, they put the shopping away and Willow went to help Wendy with the laundry. Being Saturday, they went to the club to have dinner and catch up with the villagers. When Ashley was asked about his head, he just told them that he had run into something wooden.

Maisie and Gina came along, so the two friends sat together. Willow told Gina about what Racheal had told her that morning.

Friday I didn’t have an evening date with Anna because she was working in the restaurant again. This time, I decided to try the Straight Only club and find a guy. It was weirder than I expected. I realized that all these men used to be women who turned into their idea of the ideal man. But that didn't seem to fully explain what I saw.

After dinner, they passed a very agreeable hour in a slow, mutual exploration of each other's bodies. To Tano's relief, Eldreth wasn't at all put out that Tano came twice to her once, saying that it was both a tremendous compliment and extremely sexy.

Chapter 14

Back at home, that evening, Willow opened her laptop to find some emails. One was from Wilhelm, showing the balance of the SL Holdings account at just over a million after Jacob had been paid out.

I followed her down to a portal to the 18th level, where there was a theater. But not movies on a screen. We went past the main entrance to the theater, down a long corridor, and through one of several doors, onto an empty stage, behind closed curtains. From some sort of control panel Anna selected something. There was a mechanism that I could hear under the stage which moved some set pieces into place. The title “Romeo and Juliet” appeared facing us at the top of the curtain. She did a bit more, and the display changed to read “Rosalie and Juliet.”

“Do you want to be Rosalie or Juliet?”

Chapter 13.

The new neighbours had expressed a desire to see inside Broadcasting House, so it was a big group who were escorted to the studio where the show was to be recorded. It was set up for TV, and the presenter apologised for the change in format.

“Since you were last here, you’ve all gone from strength to strength. This will be a special on both One and Three, as your appeal covers both demographics. If you can go with our make-up girl, she’ll give you the matt skin that looks better.”
