Chapter 10

*Two months later…

I’m in line up at the mess listening to people talking about stuff and sort of daydreaming in my own right as we’re heading into the Soleil system. We’re getting shore leave being here at the halfway point in out milk-run tour and we’re resupplying and we’re going to be doing a few things here.

CHAPTER 27
That week Fatima was as good as her word, and on the Wednesday she explained what her brother had told her.

“Your mother can be granted a divorce on the grounds of separation, for that needs only be for two years. The problems come afterwards”

I am sure it was a bit awkward for Dad as he went to work with no hint of his feminine side. He said it was like living in two worlds as Wanda and the office women wanted to see and know more, and others were clueless.

Dad did make the mistake of telling Wanda a week later our mom was back singing again. Wanda shared the news with Mrs. Dole the wife of the CEO. She was hosting a pre-holiday social for women but did not want it stuffy or dependent upon men.

This one hit me sometime between yesterday and today. I cannot explain where or how this story came into life but it did. Please leave comments if you want it to continue.

We chatted for half an hour or so and she asked what I was writing and where she might buy one of my books. I was quite flattered so I gave her a signed copy of my first book ‘ All about women’ that received some publicity and some tributes but didn’t really take off. She promised to read it and give me her opinions. I’d really written it from a male perspective so I wondered what she might think.

Tim wasn’t able to stay long after Grandma gave him a metal bracelet, in an acceptably masculine style. It looked like the metal had been powder coated a bright red that matched his Trans Am. She added the “Pontiac T/A”, and it looked very sharp on Tim’s wrist. She spent a lot of time learning about his parents, the kinds of things they enjoyed, a favorite color, what they drove, etc.

And there’s more to the song and it really and it’s a really great tune actually and I’m a fan of The Bare-naked Ladies ever since I heard them when I was ten at a neighborhood dance at the boys and girl club.

Six Forty-Five, Part 4: Epilogue

Things didnt get better right away. I still got bullied at school, and at home was stuck in the middle of several fights between my mom and my step-father. I also had to cope with flashbacks so bad that sometimes, all I wanted to do was cry or throw up, or maybe both.

But by summer, once the doctors had finished poking around in my head, they made the pronouncement - I was a girl.

Just one with a little bit of misplaced skin between my legs.
