Charles arrived for work the next day carrying a peace offering. He was carrying a huge bunch of flowers and a vase to put them in.

“Why Charles, I didn’t know you cared”, said Liz in a faux southern accent.

She acted the part as well.

Charlie smiled.

“And the Oscar for best actress goes to Liz”

They both fell around laughing.

Chapter 4 - Safe at home.

What Joyce had said, made me feel a little better, but I was still shaking. Gary suggested we leave and stop by my apartment and let me get some clothes. I was thinking also about what Connie had said to Joyce about my moving in with them. That would take care of a lot of things; such as, not coming home to an empty house, not having to spend evenings alone watching television. In fact, when you have a few girls living together, there is bound to be things to do, places to go and people to see.

Tanya exited the elevator and started toward the ICU nurse’s station, her heels seeming incredibly loud in the otherwise quiet area. Reaching the desk, she asked the first person she saw, “Do you have a Cynthia Henderson here?”

Looking up from the chart she’d been studying, the nurse asked, “Are you a relative?”

With some irritation she said, “About as close as you’re likely to find. She was disowned by her family years ago.”

The arrival of a heavy thunderstorm produced a lull in the almost relentless bombardment from the Enemy positions less than half a mile away.

High Explosive & Very high static in the Atmosphere didn’t go well together. For an early September day in 1916 in the Western Front, and after a very dry period where the fields had turned from mud to dust the clear atmosphere was a welcome relief.
