My mind whirled into a chaotic reverse; it felt like our lunch, and my trip out to Kern Cotton, had taken place a month earlier. I had to remind myself that it had only been yesterday. . . .

The freshmen boys of Asher College have obsessed for weeks in anticipation of Phi Lambda Phi’s annual ‘Harvest Moon Panty Raid’ but Nick Wilder has other plans. He’s got his eye on one Phi Lamb in particular and he’s not about to screw it up by being like everyone else. But plans change and so must Nick if he’s going to get the girl of his dreams.

Twilight

It began like a normal day at the dock. As always, I wore my lavender summer dress and one-inch heel sandals. Every day I went out at sunrise and came back exactly at twilight. But this day would be different.

I followed Anna to the end of the hallway where she abruptly stopped and looked down the stairs.

“Papa,” she said as I caught up with her and caught the eye of her dad. He was a young-ish looking man with bright red hair and a mustache that looked like it could take Charles Bronson down a peg or two,

People would say that you cannot ever meet two friend more different than me and PJ Leitch. But the fact is that we grew up in the country on neighboring farms, and a bike pathe beside the road between them. We had a hand in making that path, and also our special track down to the Lohanokie River in front and other up into the Campbell Mountains behind. We loved the outdoors in those days. Hell, I still do.

The scent was strong, acrid, maybe even a little sweet but unmistakably chemical, it was difficult to pin down any of the separate notes of the scent.

“Keep your fingers straight.” she instructed.

“Uh, sorry…” is all I managed, having suddenly been pulled out of my amateur scent analysis of the nail polish fumes.

“I know you've done this before, surely you know to keep your fingers straight, is something bothering you Jacob?” Laura enquired.

James sat cross-legged on the living room floor, surrounded by open tabs on his laptop and a half-eaten granola bar that had somehow become part of his "research process." The screen glared back at him with a mix of medical jargon and forum posts from men who had actually tried induced lactation.

“Possible side effects: breast tenderness, hormonal imbalances, mood swings...”

He scratched his stubble. Okay, so he’d be emotional and a little sore. Big deal. He had survived that one time he had tried hot yoga. This couldn’t be worse.

After the announcements, the four of them sat at a table with marker pens. At their right was the store manager to ensure that all products being signed had a correct sales receipt. The line moved slowly, with them learning to answer the questions with enough information but not so much as to slow down the line. They sat and signed and talked until lunch, when the manager asked that the guests be given some time to get refreshments.
