What was the parking space had been cleaned and painted. There was a girder frame around the walls, supported by uprights on each corner, and across the back wall it supported a pair of steel doors that totally hid the doors to the lane. The single door at the other side had been bricked up. There was an industrial rack to the left, the same as used in the distribution area and big enough to take pallets.

Reawakening

I was 19 when I encountered a really hot girl at a club and left with her. But we never got to the point of having sex. We kissed and ran our mouths over each other, and during this time my date Kelly bit me hard on the neck. And that was the end of my life as Brad.

I bite my lip as I stare at my friend, trying to judge her reaction to what I just said — is it surprise, or shock, or, as much as I hope it isn’t, disgust?

“…Bailey?” I ask hesitantly. “Did you hear — I, umm, I meant what I said. I’ve — I’ve always wished that I was a girl. Our last morning in a tent for a while dawned with a slight hint of miserable weather, the first in what seemed like an age. It had rained during the night, but nobody seemed to care much. All our girls were in light dresses and flip-flops or sandals, on the basis that if they got wet feet, who cared? I remembered the old Scouts camping adage that site dress should be shorts and canvas plimsolls, on the same principle. I somehow doubted that people at Everest Base Camp would concur, but it worked for a typical British Summer.
