Chapter 18

Marcy had hoped the stop at CC’s would have been the last one. She had suffered enough embarrassment for a day. Lisa’s claim that they still had a few errands to run made her worry that it wasn’t all over after all. Her worries were soon confirmed when they stopped in a rather seedy looking neighbourhood.

I ran down the stairs after the man that might be my dad, but there was no sign of him. I stopped in the middle of the archway at the bottom of the stairs, staring down an empty corridor. The tears that had started after seeing the memories were in full force now and I slumped against the wall and cried. I cried for being taken from my parents, for being lied to, for the life that should have been.

Author’s note: This is the first in what might be a series of short essays about some of my favorite fictional universes. Today; we’ll take a look at the backstory of the Land, the world of Thomas Covenant the Unbeliever.

The story of the Land, and the larger world that it is a part of, begins with a Creator. The Creator sought to make a living world, so first he used white gold and wild magic to forge the Arch of Time, as a place for his world to be made within, and a bridge of light to connect it to himself.

I herd the door open and turned to see aunt standing in the doorway.
"Hurry up Katie, dinners ready"

I turned to look at Katie but she was nowhere to be seen!
"and give Mel a shout would you dear"

I just let out a hmmph and nodded my head unsure of what to do. Aunt left the room and went back down stairs.
"Katie dinners ready"
