Chapter 22

Trevor hadn’t dared open the Ziplocked notebook. It sat on the passenger seat as he scrolled through university websites in search of a conservator. Most places were distant, busy, or too formal. Then he found Professor Rory MacTavish—an ancient text expert, and friend at CU Denver, with a knack for bookbinding on the side.

They had met years ago at a TED talk. Fran had gone with him. Of course at that time, they’d been pre-college, and really weren’t sure what they wanted to focus on. Trevor had been interested in old religious literature preservation, and Fran (Frank at the time) had accompanied him to the talk. They both found themselves fascinated by some of the ideas that MacTavish had, and eagerly listened to every seminar he spoke at. They spoke to him after his last seminar and developed a kind of rapport.

He’s my first in so many ways and he is the first person I’ve really kissed or wanted to kiss.

And that sort of kind of takes this out and away from necking.

And sort of makes it really important to me.

Sure it could be me being fixed up and getting healthy, or it’s me getting back on track with my hormones and everything else that came out of me figuring it all out and all.

But it’s not.

I mean it’s not some swooning girly thing.

Though I do get a very girl like thrill or what maybe it seems like to me when he picks me up into a carry and my legs actually wrap around him and he carries me around the apartment kissing me and supporting me with one arm as he locks the doors and starts to turn off our lights before carrying me to the bedroom.

He leaves the bedroom light off and he turns his stereo on and drops in a mixed CD he made and some light rock folk group I don’t know starts playing and it sounds nice and romantic too.

He set’s me on the edge of the bed and kisses me deeply this time in that lay you down kind of really great way.

The girls meet ‘Ricky’, whose actual name is Arnold, and his wife and children. Arnold is a bit of a mystery as he and his family are quite intellectually advanced; especially for raccoons. The girls take a rather long hike to fairly high altitudes and get some more lessons on ecology and geology. They also determine that a member of the group of boys who passed them is transgender. They just don’t know who it is.

Silly Challenge for Silly September Story Contest

I may be crazy but I’m not stupid. That’s my mantra. Then add on that my birthday is April 1st... April Fool’s Day! I have an excuse for being wacked in the head! So what does all my weirdness have to do with the September Story contest? Well, my mind went willy nilly when I read it was to be a SILLY challenge for SILLY September. I think I covered all the main points, ninjas, pirates, spiders, sailing ships, sealing wax, cabbages, kings and even though zombies have no interest for me... but not to be denied I added them my way while twisting several of the others so keep your eyes sharp and your groans ready. I sincerely hope you enjoy the results:

And what does all this have to do with an intergalactic invasion or the Men in Beige?
