Heir to a Title, Chapter 20

Within three days the conservationists concluded that the marten family seemed undisturbed by the presence of the hide. The decision was made to try and install more cameras around and in the tree with a tentative attempt to try and install one inside the den.

The first phase went well and by the mid-afternoon, there were six cameras installed at strategic locations around the glade, the final objective now confronted the observers, how to get an inside view of the den.

I am sitting with Francie at lunch and she grins at me. I ask, “What?”

She shakes her head and says, “I don’t know. You’re different today… Like…you’re at peace, or something. I don’t know what it is…but…WHATEVER it is—I LIKE what it has done to you!”

I smile and shake my head. I say, “I’ll tell you about it, Francie. Later. Right now, I have to concentrate on kicking some ‘other’ camp ass! Speaking of…Is Madame Pratt serious about that lift with Michael? I mean, I know HE can handle it…but…am *I* really ready?”

As it feels like I say every chapter, sorry this took so long, and sorry its so short. My thanks to Shadowblade for letting me borrow Vantier.

Chapter 12

Faith spent the next two days in a state of magical meditation, with her friends taking turns keeping an eye on her.

While in that state, she communed with her mother’s spirit, with Ava, and read from the Book of the People.

After two days, Faith felt ready to face what would come, and came out of her dreamstate.

Talia was there, and helped Faith to her feet.

This is a revision of a post that I had here, originally comprising the next two chapters of the story.

When I posted it, there were comments that the whole of what was chapter 5 at that point was gratuitous, unnecessary violence. I responded, saying that I had felt it was needed, but afterward, I pretty much gave up on continuing the story.

Kevin wasn’t a tall boy, by any means. Nobody really picked on him because he was fast, agile, and the rumor had it he was a ninja. Of course ignoring the fact that his mother was Chinese and not Japanese aside, like the true Ninja of old he did nothing to dissuade those rumors. He had no idea that that was about to get him into more trouble though.

A man gets much more than expected from a simple purchase. (Inspired by a commercial you've probably seen.)

What follows is my take. I'm curious what directions others would pursue; anyone else care to write about "what happens next"?

By the end of the week, I am swimming faster and farther than ever before. I am even winning a bunch of the races at practice in several swim styles—but that is against girls, so I know it is not a fair race. While I still can’t see the muscles that I am expecting any moment, I know that my puberty is kicking in because of the implant, so I must be getting stronger than the girls—the problem is, I still don’t FEEL stronger. And with having to be girlied-up all of the time, I can’t really SEE that I am developing either. If anything, I feel and look even girlier than ever.
