Shadows stretched and danced across the intricate jade pillars of the throne hall, creating a tapestry of light and dark. The air was thick with an electric hum, infused with protective wards that swirled like whispers around them, empowered by the Kitsune Queen’s shimmering foxfire and the primal echoes of the Werewolf Queen’s growls, which resonated like distant thunder.

Yuqi observed with an attentive eye that the once-grand entrances of the other dragons no longer drew gasps of awe; their powers, once flaunted like banners, were now wielded with a quieter grace. Even Sebastian, still reeling from his public embarrassment in the bustling cafeteria, had chosen a path of solitude, keeping his distance with an air of reluctance.

“Careful when you mention Beemers. Our mate Neil rides one”

“Talking about the drivers, Mike, not riders. Though I dunno about those who went for the Brick”

Sapphire and Yuqi hurried home, their hearts racing with a mix of excitement and anxiety. They both understood that what lay ahead would alter the course of their lives—once more. The truth they had guarded closely was about to be unveiled, no longer a secret whispered among a select few but a revelation that would echo through their entire circle of friends.

Sophie gave him ten seconds at best, interpreting her step-brother’s response in a more figurative manner. Why give him a full minute, when it was much more fun to surprise him? Either Sam was already wearing the dress, or still in the process of putting it on. If it was the former, amazing; otherwise, Sophie could double down about how he needed help.

Chapter 38: Lunchtime Drama

Sapphire and Yuqi strolled into the bustling lunchroom, their laughter intertwining like music as they exchanged a secret joke. The tantalizing aroma of freshly cooked food filled the air, overpowering even the chatter of students. Their trays were a sight to behold—Yuqi's was an impressive tower of culinary indulgence, stacked high with three juicy burgers and a veritable mountain of crisp, golden fries, glistening under the bright cafeteria lights.

We spent the next three hours settled comfortably on the grass as the skies lit up with stars and shearwaters curdled the air with their conversations, only slowly dying away. It was well past midnight by the time we settled LC into her bunk, after a headtorch-guided amble back to the farmhouse, trying not to step on the rabbits.

Chapter 4: First Summons

The Lily Ponds lifted my mood in their shaded tranquillity, despite a sort of one-person argument between my wife and herself over whether a rather out-of-place black swan could count as a UK tick on that list she denied keeping. Thankfully, and before she could come close to blows with herself, we were treated to the sight of a kingfisher flying out over the water, plunging, and then disappearing once more with a rather large fish, which reminded my stomach that it had actually been a rather long time since breakfast. Maz laughed, forgetting her swan-based dispute.

“Mike, darling, have we suddenly discovered a hitherto unknown large land predator, or was that your stomach?”

The story of Superboy and Super-Sister has been told before. So, why tell it again? Because, as Frank Sinatra would say, it's time it's been told my way. The story is set in the mid-1960s. But contradictory stories have been told about the Super family over many different decades. This is because the stories come from different worlds of the Multiverse. For now, let's go to a world where the adventures of Super-Sister will differ somewhat from those that we already know.

Our daughter’s silence was a persistent worry, for I suspected that it wasn’t a mature response to the need for silence but rather a conditioned reflex, no doubt beaten into her. Ish didn’t have my character quite right, for there were times I was pretty sure I could kill, and if I had encountered ‘Mr Rattan’ or whatever his bloody name was, I am pretty sure the firing squad he met would have been redundant. Save the bullets, boys, the bald round-eye over there has fists.

Mom and I both settled into our seats and soon we were stuffing our mouths with crispy, fried chicken tenders, and golden, crinkle cut french fries that were golden on the outside and nice, and fluffy on the inside. Halfway through our meal, mom decided to break the silence.

“A Penny for your thoughts?” Mom said as she stuffed three french fries into her mouth.

Marlene strode away, leaving me amazed at how easily she managed walking in such extraordinary heels, and I found myself seeing Ish in a new light as he sat shirtless while Lil finished her first aid work. He might forever be our baby, but he was also a very big and powerful man.

Chapter 3: Living My Truth

The suggestion floated through the room like a playful breeze, a whisper of mischief carried on clouds of pillows and bursts of laughter. “Let’s venture to the garden,” someone declared, stretching languidly like a contented cat basking in the afternoon sun. “The lake is simply enchanting at this hour.”
