CHAPTER 52
Breakfast, to my surprise, wasn’t awkward, as all we did was smile at each other over our cereal and toast. In between her smiles, she asked, “What are we up to today?”

I thought for a few seconds before I answered.

“Depends on whether we have transport”

“Mam’s out in her work car, lo--- Jen. We could borrow her own”

CHAPTER 26
We talked Fran and Richard through the drive up, as well as our plans for Scotland.

“Last time I was there was as support for Judy on the LEL—London-Edinburgh-London, ladies, like the French Ride. We, Franny and me, have spent more time recently in Galloway than the Highlands; easy trip from here. You taking the A82?”

The glass doors of the fitness center slide apart, letting a rush of over-conditioned air hit the August heat still clinging to my neck. I step inside. The lobby smells of rubber flooring, ozone, and citrus cleaner.

I haven't been here in weeks. I haven't swiped my membership card since the afternoon I tried to run on a treadmill and felt my chest tearing itself apart. The plastic card is slippery in my damp hand. I scan it at the turnstile. The desk attendant, a college kid wearing a tight black polo, doesn't even look at his monitor.

The theory that one of their classmates was suspected of being part of the gang that was raping women and destroying their lives took a while to sink in for Trish. While it had been rumoured, it was John’s words that made it all too real.

Chapter 2: I've Had Enough

I stared at the silver key, transfixed by the way it trembled in that impossibly pale, inhuman hand. The paper tag fluttered gently, as if moved by a breath I couldn’t feel, the words—First prize: Your Name—curling and uncurling in the lamplight’s glow. My pulse thudded in my ears, sweat slicking my palms, every instinct screaming that nothing good waited on the other side of this exchange.

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT

Or something. Those who have followed this will know that I stuffed up a bit of chronology, in that Gemma's arrival happens here after the mass arrest, whereas it was the other way round. I will be amending the manuscript for publication, but not just now, as it will be a heavy job. What I am going to do is to write the rest of this in the right time sequence, so the next few chapters may be a little off compared to the earlier ones. To quote Hawkwind, 'Do Not Panic'

CHAPTER 51
That was really just like my god box in the flat: ‘pause’ had been pressed, on my life, but was it time to press ‘play’ once again? We stood shoulder to shoulder as the wind pushed the reeds this way and that, and Amina muttered something about work.

“Sorry?”

“This is sort of going to be my workplace, if I get the job I’m after”

Jody’s Story, Chapter 25: Christmas and the New Year

Victoria, Aries, Mona, and Nancy shared my bed with me again the next four mornings December 21-24, and there were no more gifts, but more sightseeing and exploring the city as a group. On the 23rd I briefly visited with both Nancys and confirmed both of them would be available on Christmas, and they agreed to swap around so that each of them could be with my parents part of the day.

Day 32 in chastity

Before too long, all of my clothes started to fit differently because Richard had begun changing and rearranging what went inside them.

Me. Daniel.

Padding was dangerous, he said. Mum might find it. A wig could slip. Stubble took too long to hide when Bluebell was supposed to mean immediately. Every solution created the next problem, and every problem had one responsible, discreet treatment Richard had already researched and procured.

The pills were temporary at first. Everything was temporary at first.

Days 12-14

The next morning Mum was buttering toast while I stood beside the kitchen table in trainers and an old sweatshirt, arguing with Richard about something unimportant. I cannot remember what. I remember enjoying the shape of the argument itself - my voice raised just enough, Richard answering calmly like he knows everything so much better than me, Mum barely listening. Even then, arguing was still something Daniel did without having to think about how Daniel was supposed to do it.

Disclosure - chapter 5

The razor sits on the edge of the bathroom sink. A thin layer of white dust coats the plastic handle. The blades are dulling from the humidity of the shower. I haven't picked it up in two weeks. The dark stubble that used to shadow my jaw every morning stopped growing.

I brace both hands against the porcelain rim and look at the mirror.

Jody’s Story, Chapter 24: Learning About Mona and Nancy

“Wow, where did you get this little number?” Mona asked when she saw how she was dressed in bed.

“It was my mother’s gift for Victoria.”

“Well she must know that you and Victoria are having sex now.”

“Well, she did see us get married, so she might assume that.”

Chapter 2:

As consciousness surfaced, I became aware of the faint, sterile hum of the medical pod surrounding me—a cocoon of softly glowing panels and translucent shielding that filtered the wan morning light. Metallic air kissed my skin, tinged with the subtle scent of antiseptic and ozone. My eyelids fluttered open, lashes brushing my cheeks, but before I could focus on the world outside the tube, voices cut through the quiet.

I stood in front of the full-length mirror, running a hand over my bare midriff. The blinds were still drawn and I was relying solely on the light from the skylight above. Even in the dimness of the bedroom, I could see how the black crop top and gym leggings clung to my body like a second skin.

Miao Ling Grace and Siobhan Llewellyn are seemingly destined to be together. The pair learn later that Grace's brother Cretein and a girl he meets in college, Justine MacNamara, are integral to that destiny in ways that defy mere coincidence.

Though my first installment is easily acceptable to general audiences, later installments will have sections meant for adults only. That is to say:
At times, this story is not safe for work and truly not acceptable reading for those under 18.

Murphy's Law : Book 2 | Red Harvest

Murphy's Law
Book II: Red Harvest
By Josie

Jack Murphy once again delves into the murky underworld to find a missing girl. Armed with only his dry-wit and cynicism, he journeys to a quiet little farm town called Waterston. It’s a beautiful place, renown for its cherries and the orchards that dotted the landscape against the rolling green hills beyond. But it’s also a world where the hunter becomes the hunted and where the forces of good collide with the evil cloaked in the myth and mysticism of an ancient belief.

It’s also a place where some find the "Red Harvest sinfully wild to enjoy, while others find nothing more than disappointment and regret . . ."

Murphy's Law (Revised)

Murphy's Law
Revised

“Murphy understood the law and knew justice. He also knew that the two were often not the same. To catch the bad guy and win a confession, you had to be willing to step outside the box and take chances. That’s what made him a great cop. But that didn’t give him the right to take the law in his own hands. All he had to do was have a boy examined to confirm his true gender and now his mistake was going to cost him. Maybe his job? Maybe a demotion?

But then nothing in this case was turning out like it should. He should have seen this coming. He should have known that you can test the odds and you can test your resolve, but never pit your luck against Murphy’s Law. Because sure as the devil will get his due, anything that can go wrong, will go wrong!”

CHAPTER 23
Coming back to our house was a little bit of a downer, for I had got back into the swing of the Flemish lifestyle extremely quickly, and the others seemed to have followed closely in my wake.

The others had succumbed to my cunning plan, one that had occurred to me at about one in the morning on my first night and thus brought a grumble from my tipsy wife as I quickly searched the internet for confirmation., and then Sunday was spent on the coast via a short bus ride. Jacky was a little reluctant, though, but only at first.

I stayed in my armchair until I heard the door shut again, and then Amina was there, standing at the living room doorway.

“You’re in now”

“I am. Mam packed some food, but I don’t think it goes with your takeaway. Can I make a suggestion?”

CHAPTER 49
I needed to think. So many people were pushing, and I dreaded waking up one day and discovering that my feelings weren’t so much my own as donations from well-meaning friends. Tom spoke of ‘gaining’, but I had already lost, and if I were to do so again, it would be myself I would lose. I needed space to think, space of my own, because every time I was with Amina, I was not thinking at all.
