I'd been debating how to get back home or to my car. I wasn't sure if I would get in trouble if I went back for it. I was standing outside the ER entrance when a human projectile came at me and literally jumped into my arms and told me to take her home.

Helped by the prudery of that time, Georgia had very little difficulty in hiding his condition. After all, there was only one small part of him that could give him away, and that was enveloped in a quantity of skirts that were meant to hide even the faintest suggestion of what lay beneath.

This started out as a short story about princesses, somehow I got lost.

I was the youngest of three siblings growing up. My older sisters Kat and Debbie were both older by a year or two. My mom Joanne, and dad John, were products of the war generation which made my siblings and me ‘baby boomers’. I grew up in a suburban neighborhood and had a middle-class neighborhood upbringing.

Carol, naturally, had prepared a solid and spicy meal for us all, and I settled down at the table with a sigh of anticipation. One drawback of bike rallies is the food, as it is almost always of the kind best suited for drunks: greasy, salty and usually in a bun. What Carol offered was heavily influenced by Indian cuisine, but there was always a surprising twist courtesy of Peter’s expert foraging. Nettle soup was a regular starter, and I experienced all sorts of seasonal surprises from them, such as different sorts of mushroom, or what he called the ‘cheese’ from thistle heads mixed into salads made up of leaves from a huge variety of plants.
