17 - Fulvin's Obsession

Over the next few days the newest family of the Clan Wells Point melded into loving kindred. Since the women wanted to contribute to the CWP they thought of what they might do. They also took Becky to the CWP Daycare so she could get used to being around other children. Before the heart transplant she’d been too weak to mingle. Afterward she was too fragile due to her compromised immune system. Since recovering from her hospitalization thanks to the angelic intervention that seemed to be a thing of the past. Becky would join clan members Wanda Scott and Karen Harris in the pre kindergarten program at St. Michaels Elementary school which adjoined the middle/high school when school reopened in the new year.

On December 27 Wendy reached a decision. “Mom, can I ask a favor?”

“Of course, Wendy,” Helen smiled.

“Say Uncle!” The side of my face was pressed against the dirt of the sand box. Billy’s thumb dug into my wrists. The pressure sending the sharp pain radiating up my arm through my elbow. I shrieked like a wounded animal. “That’s not ‘Uncle’… If you want me to let go… All you have to say is ‘Uncle’.” Rex taunts me as he plants his knee in to my back.

high overhead, my shorts fell down. Well that hasn't happened in a long time now. I pulled them back up and retied the
string on them tighter than before, noticing as I did so that my little pudge belly was gone. I was liking this more and
more all the time.

I am sorry for how long this took to get out. I've had a horrible couple of weeks and it's December so everything's been busy in good and bad ways. Plus this chapter was really frustrating to get right in my head and it took me ages for it to flow properly. I re-wrote it about five times before being happy with it and I'm so glad it's over and I can move on! Wah!

Chapter Two: The Road to Recovery

I was just coming around, realizing that I was flat on my back. I had just been electrocuted, why was I still alive. Then I
heard Darla scream, so I couldn't have been out for very long, bare moments. I moaned, barely audible. God, I hurt all over.

Again, how was I even alive after that shock? Guess I was just lucky! Ha, ha.

“Ohh lemme see, lemme see!” Vanessa beams with excitement as she pulls the small card from Rhonda’s fingers.

“Hey! I was still looking at it!” Rhonda looked ruefully at Vanessa.

“So where are you going first?” Sherry adds.

“Mom won’t let me drive…” I say sadly.

Sherry reaches for the card and gives it a tug. “My turn.”

“Careful! Don’t rip it!” I admonish the trio.

“It’s only a temporary, you get the real one in a month or two.” Vanessa chimes back.

“It’s okay if you call me a boy and ‘he’,” I said. “Or girl and ‘she’, either way. I’m wearing skirts for now but I think I’ll go back to pants when I stop growing and can buy stuff that will fit me long-term.”
