On Saturday morning, Willow was up and over at the church early. She got the service details from the Reverend and went up to the organ to work through the hymns. After that, she went to the club, where Malcolm was polishing glasses.

“Big night, tonight, Willow. Fully booked with a waiting list. Quite a few that have booked full tables.”

The dinner was far better than Melissa had envisaged. It was made even better by Jack’s Father, Henry, who proved to be quite a raconteur.

Conference Room 5A, Blake Industries, Mountain Complex:
Patricia, Sara, Sasha, Ivy, Jake, Cindy, Beverly & Wendy, Commander Jake Williams, Billy, Tammy, and Sara all sat at a rectangular solid oak table. All of them had either tablets or laptops sitting in front of them. A silver computerized beach ball-sized ball floated near the front of the table where a woman with blonde hair wearing a pair of black wraps-around glasses stood. Another identical woman who looked just like the first one, without the black glasses sat on her right-hand side.

Chapter 1: A Crazy Idea

Brett lounged on the plush couch, scrolling through his phone as Jenny burst into the room, a mischievous glint in her eye.

Her long, curly brown hair bounced with each step, and her bright smile could light up a room.

She was the epitome of elegance, from her designer heels to her perfectly manicured nails.

Agreement to our proposals was surprisingly quick, given the allegations about ‘Wily Orientals’ I had grown up with, and within two weeks we were already at the stage of drafting a training roster, splitting Maz and I so that we could work twice as fast while still leaving time for our childcare responsibilities.

The first lot were the ‘matrix’ people, including Audrey, who turned up in one of my classes. They were all frighteningly intense in their approach to the work, and I began to suspect that the local working culture might be just a little competitive, maybe with a touch of canine cannibalism.

Chapter One: The Surprise

My girlfriend, Megan, was in her mid-forties, with shoulder-length brown hair, and very beautiful even on a bad day. We had worked at the same data center for about four years before I changed jobs and got a divorce. Megan and I have been together for about 2 years. She was well known for her tendency to display generous amounts of cleavage.

I realized I wasn’t in a womb; I was in an egg. They said anything was possible when you ethertraveled, and that was one of those possibilities; many ethertravelers had reported being born from eggs.

I tried to bust my way out of the egg, but failed at first. I slept again later, and the next time I awoke I was feeling hungry. The yolk sac was empty. Now I really needed to hatch, to break my way out of the egg. I couldn’t tell whether I had arms or wings at this point, but they had elbows. After trying several other strategies, by poking both elbows to opposite sides at the same time, I was able to break a hole in the eggshell. Once it was broken, it was pretty easy to break the rest of it.
