The World According To Coop Ch.6
by:
Enemyoffun

15 year old Jason Cooper is an orphan who's always taken care of things himself. He lives alone, has close friends, has no care in the world. Then his billionaire family contacts him out of nowhere, looking to finally reconnect. They have an ulterior motive but Jason has some secrets of his own, many of them. The smallest of which is that he's a genius.

Chapter 1: The Method of the King’s Men

The air in the rehearsal hall of St. Jude’s Academy for Boys always smelled of stale floor wax, cedar costume trunks, and pure panic.

CHAPTER 68
I tried to distract him and commented that the Penarth ferry was possibly not a job with the broadest of horizons, but Clara was already laughing.

“It would be a help in all sorts of things, everything from being an air hostess to working on cruises, but, well…”

The laughter stopped, and she looked at her hands for a moment, then glanced quickly at LC.

Sometimes a book teaches a truth about something I thought I knew

I'm reading a library book called THE BIRD KING by G. Willow Wilson. At one point the narrator, a slave concubine to the last sultan of Granada, discussing how others treat her says:" they treat me with caution. I might be carrying the sultans child..........Or the sultan might sell me tomorrow, in which case I'm not important at all"......
"He wouldn't really sell you, surely"
"No, he wouldn't. but he could"

For the first time, I think I really understood a real historical figure: Sally Hemmings.

PS The rest of the book as interesting, too.

CHAPTER 21
I ended up enjoying the evening, impressed by the stage mechanics, props and scenery rising and falling on cue, and it was clear that the audience were of the same type as I had encountered at a showing of the ‘Rocky Horror’ film, in that they clearly knew every line of the script. When the male lead came out with that line Jacky had quoted, about babies and corners, almost everybody in the theatre cheered.

Disclosure - chapter 4

The paper covering the exam table sounds like dry leaves every time I drag a breath into my lungs. I'm wearing a faded blue hospital gown that ties in the back. The thermostat in the clinic is set for staff moving around in thick scrubs, and the cold air raises goosebumps on my thighs. It tightens the tender flesh on my chest until the ache runs up into my collarbone. I keep my arms crossed loosely over my stomach to avoid brushing the fabric against my own nipples.

Part 19 Penny Black

I woke up feeling ‘different’. I couldn’t put my finger on it for a while, but I remembered the discussion as I was going under, and when I felt around my groin, I realised that I actually had nothing there to put a finger on.

So much for reversible cosmetic alterations! My face had the swelling and bruising going down; my breasts were still swathed in bandages and now I was uncertain just how much different my groin was.

Len nodded. “Hard to connect with a name your Irish-American mom gave you when you can’t even remember her.”

“’Specially when you look like a boat person straight from Manilla,” she agreed. “Anyway – what should I call you?”

A Fateful Ask

The bell above the door of "The Gilded Clipper" had a delicate, apologetic chime, a sound that felt too refined for the gritty city street outside. I, Alex, stood in the doorway, my heart a frantic drum against my ribs. My hair was collar-length, a noncommittal, mousy brown that I’d hidden under baseball caps for years. But today, the cap was in my pocket. Today was the day.

CHAPTER 67
I was getting older, I realised, as the days flew by, and before I realised it, Clara was climbing into one of four cars for the trip down to Cowaramup, and I was checking the notes for my speech. Dal’s college, which was now of course, also our son’s, was donating use of their function room for the reception, and catering was courtesy of good old ‘Soapy Joe’ and a bakery we also had on the firm’s books. The devil you know; at least it was a better excuse than just admitting to nepotism.

CHAPTER 20
We spent the next day walking, and I mean the day, because we weren’t back at our hotel till six in the evening. Lunch was taken in a coffee place with outdoor tables, where my memory sniggered yet again over Albany, but all of us were in sensible walking shoes rather than stiletto courts. Jacky did the steering, at least after she had found a suitable guide book, or at least more suitable than the Good Beer Guide.

A blast from the past.

Hi All,

Been a while again. I've had a very busy time since I last posted in February 2024. As I wrote then, I started coming out to my family and friends in 2018, and began my transition in 2020. I've since had top surgery, and this Tuesday, I will celebrate one year post-op from bottom surgery. Needless to say, this has kept me very busy.

We took some time in the hospital’s staff canteen for a fresh brew and a chance to unwind, and one of the radiologists spotted us as the crew who’d brought the biker in.
