Nancy Patterson’s Criss-crossed Christmas Pageant

Nancy Patterson’s Christmas Pageant would be talked about for years, but not the way she’d been dreaming it would. (No offense is intended toward those who are active in their respective congregations.)

After I opened the first box my little voice said to make sure everything listed on the invoice was inside. As I read down the list it kept pointing out mistakes over and over. Many items were missing! Not only that the amounts charged did not add up correctly.

So there I was sailing along, with my return ticket on the Titanic, totally unaware of such things as the existence of icebergs, let alone my impending impact. It seemed, I had all the mental acuity of ‘Homer Simpson’, at times anyway.

As Miss C. praised Emma’s re-mastery of basic functions Kirk too began feeling better about himself. His new life as a young woman was not so bad, he thought. It was getting harder to remember his old life.

Kirk gradually became aware of Emma’s thoughts. He was “riding around” inside like he did with Marlene. He felt Emma touch and bump into things, lifted her skirts over the mud and thanked our creator for the chance to work inside during the winter. His fingers sewed the rips and tried not to get burned on the hot irons!

I closed the door after waving goodbye to Sue and Judy and returned to the dining room where I had been doing my prep. Mummy had laid a cheerful checked cloth on the table so all I had to do was put out place mats and lay out the cutlery. Auntie G kept the "dining-room cutlery"–as she called it–in one of the drawers of the Welsh dresser, so I went straight to it and opened the drawer, and sure enough, there were knives, forks and spoons for all occasions–many of them strange to me–but I was able to select what I thought was needed and laid up two places.

Realizing that she had been laying on Richard, unconscious, she nervously sat up and checked herself. Her mind panicked. Did he feel her fake breasts? What about her jeans? Did he go exploring there? How could she let this happen, she shouted in her brain as her heart raced.
Feeling rough fingers on her chin, her face was directed back towards Richard's and the man pulled her into a long kiss. Closing her eyes, Christina parted her lips and relaxed.
"It's okay," Richard assured her. I don't mind that you fell asleep. It was rather nice holding you."

Two former lovers meet on a cold and bittersweet Christmas eve. ­

          Kadyr led them forward. Monyka wanted nothing more than to stand in the middle of the burning blaze. She could faintly feel the warm it was radiating as it was.
          “Oh for all our sakes, Tanner, can’t you see that they are hypothermic?” A stern woman’s voice chastised. “You two get over near this fire, immediately.” She left no room for argument. Monyka stumbled forward and held her hands over the fire.

At one seventeen a.m. his desk phone buzzed. “Zack, it’s Linda. I can’t find Marlene. I’ve looked everywhere!” Her voice sounded flat and depleted. He waved at the dispatcher to plug in and tape the call. Linda had dialed his direct line, not 911.

"Don't be ridiculous, you are several sizes smaller than I, so if I did borrow them, I'd end up singing bloody soprano. Besides what if we had an accident? No thanks, I'll stick with the chaffing."

"I'll kiss it better for you." I said suddenly realising what I had said.

"You'll what?" His face positively lit up.
