When the four arrived at the airport, they went to the Emirates desk to check in, to find that they needed to check in at the first-class desk. There, Willow showed the paperwork that Jill had sent her, and their cases were tagged and put onto the conveyor. They went through emigration and a bag Xray, then they were directed to the Club Lounge, where they found Jill and Lauren waiting for them.

After a week spent in the ass-crack of nowhere tracking a hellbeast through a bug-infested swamp, Shadow couldn't wait to get back to civilization so he could have a meal he hadn't cooked, sleep in a proper bed, and have a bath that didn't leave him smelling like a bog. Shadow and his compatriots had spent all of yesterday tromping through the muck to get back to the only paved road that traversed the swamp, and most of today riding out of it.

“Ugh,” I grunt as for the third time in as many mornings, I’m woken by the sound of not just traffic, but pedestrians passing by outside my window. With a sigh, I brush my hair out of my face, drag my tired body out of bed and slink through to the kitchen where — again, for the third time in as many mornings — my flatmate is already awake and eating her breakfast.

“Morning!” Martha says with a giggle between mouthfuls of muesli.
