The freshmen boys of Asher College have obsessed for weeks in anticipation of Phi Lambda Phi’s annual ‘Harvest Moon Panty Raid’ but Nick Wilder has other plans. He’s got his eye on one Phi Lamb in particular and he’s not about to screw it up by being like everyone else. But plans change and so must Nick if he’s going to get the girl of his dreams.

It was surprisingly quiet as we turned left off the Welsh Bridge on the ‘Festival Thursday’, but traffic built up a little as we hit the rise to the Berwick Road traffic lights. We were waved straight past what I had assumed would be the entrance and down to a field gate, where a rough track gave way to a series of ups and downs that had me a little worried about speed. We arrived at the other side unharmed and undamaged, however, and went through the ticket check and across the lane into the site proper. The first thing to grab my attention was the sign ‘Kill your speed, not a folkie’, which appealed to my sense of logic. Ish was on his phone.

Chapter 21

With that in mind, they passed the word to the rest of the group, and their guests collected albums, medallions, posters, and band caps. Back behind the stage, after a good walk, they went back to the dressing area, with their guests going through to the seats. The techs went to the control tent and each band sorted out their guitars.

Easter Dinner

Nothing really happen for the rest of he day. Despite going to a Catholic Private School, Aunt Flora and I decided to skip going to Easter Sunday Mass. After breakfast Aunt Flora went to get her morning shower and I cleaned the kitchen. The rest of the day was spent with Aut Flora napping and I reading. Dinner was of course the mutton joint that had been stewing away for a good seven and a half hours now.

“What bloody festival?”

“Shrewsbury folk festival. Bit of history there, to say the least. It’s where the Woodruffs met for starters, as well as where Annie and Eric got together. It was also the girls’ first trip away, as a couple, that is, and not with either set of parents. We thought it would, well; it’s not just a chance for you to get some relaxed time with both of them, but it also seemed like a proper present for Maz and the little one. They tell me it’s very good for kids, loads of activities just for them. The last weekend of the month, ah? Give my girl a chance to breathe. I’ll let you know who’s on, but not today. Enjoy the trip, love. We’ll be fine”

Chapter 20

It was a constant stream of customers for the next two hours. Many had brought all three items and wanted all three signed. It did give the band time to answer questions while they were signing. They all signed with only their birth name, to allow enough space for all eleven on the plastic case. After the first few had bypassed the two at the end of her table, Willow got up and got Vivienne to sit in her seat. Being one of those that everyone wanted the signature of, she created a slowing of the line so that everyone had product presented to them.

[The following February]

The steady stream of punters leaving the club signified that closing time was near. The flow soon dwindled to a few stragglers. The two doormen looked at their watches anxiously. It was well past 02:00 when the last customer left the club and climbed into a waiting taxi. For the doormen, their work for the night was done and dusted. They went inside and locked the door behind them.
