I’ve finished showering and I’m mostly dressed for the day, save for the white apron that’s sitting folded on the table beside me. I manage to shake my head slightly, and tell her no. “Well there’s nothing to do for it,” I can hear the shrug in her voice as she braids the hair on the side of my head and loops it around the back to connect it with a braid she’s made on the other side.

“Thank you,” I say to her softly.

“For what, dear?” She asks, humming to herself.
