Holy smokes

Holy smokes, I just applied to be a vendor at the fifth annual Davis County Pride Festival.

I’ve come a long way from secretly writing wish fulfillment stories to being an openly queer indie author tabling at events.

I gotta admit, it felt a little weird putting in the application. I helped organize the four prior festivals and served as vice-chair, so returning as a vendor feels like I’m coming full circle in the best way.

So, I've spent the week working on the server layout, and getting us more resilient than we have been for 2 years.

We are currently split amongst multiple virtual servers again, as well as being able to scale our resource usage and whether attacks (intentional or accidental) better than we have been in a while.

I just wanted to pop in and say hi. I’m sorry I’ve been a little quiet on the site lately. Life and writing have a way of pulling me in different directions sometimes. While I wasn’t very active here, I was sort of around on Discord, so I haven’t completely disappeared.

The last person they auditioned was singing a song he had written for his father, who had died of leukemia. I wasn’t really paying attention to most of the show as I was reading while she watched, but something made me pay attention to this last audition.

Tiny Indie Milestone (screaming quietly into the void)

Fractured Rune just hit 50 orders since its January 20 release. Five. Zero. That may not sound like much in a world where bestseller lists exist and algorithms demand blood sacrifices, but in indie author land this is A Thing. This is fifty real humans who saw a queer, anti-theocratic, mildly unhinged epic fantasy and went, “Yes. That one. I will put this in my brain.” I am vibrating at a frequency normally reserved for malfunctioning machinery.

As you all can see, I have a whole lot of open stories that I have started. A few, I am stuck on the direction I want to take them. In order to combat my gender dysphoria and my ADHD. I am constantly coming up with ideas. I have started many ideas but also abandoned a lot, since I don't see a story beyond the change. I am revisiting the stories and see a clear path forward. I am also constantly learning how to write better, and I have seen the difference in writing styles from the beginning to now.

Recent shooting in small town British Columbia that is making news for all the wrong reasons.

The shooter was a troubled transwoman. From what I have been able to gather thus far she was cyber bullied. The one pictured showed someone that had been through male puberty even though she supposedly transitioned at age 12 then quit the school two years later.

The victims were either adults, two, or children around the same age as her step brother 12.

Small remote redneck Canadian town.

Repeated calls for police which included suicide. Guns.

The best way to describe this is a starter to a story or perhaps even a challenge you decide.
The first part of this is selecting 50 to 100 people or however many is required for the story.
selection method Magical, technological and even perhaps game show.

This is the southeasternmost county in the state, a land of bleak hills, sand dunes, alkali dirt, canals and farm fields. And small desert towns like dusty jewels on a beige apron.

This evening, I was exposed to greatness. Colbert’s guest was Ian McKellan, who performed live a speech from Shakespeare’s play Thomas More, which was written some 500 years ago and represents the only work actually preserved in the Bard’s actual handwriting. For political reasons, namely that it was considered seditious when written, the play was first performed in 1967. Ian McKellan was the actor who created the part of Thomas More in that first production of the play; a play which is as fitting in today’s world as it was 500 years ago.

As a society the general idea is anything goes or why bother. At meetings with support groups, random meetings with individuals, even shopping, doctor's visits, etc, it seems most are wearing what they grabbed in the closet without looking. If they have nice clothes they are saving them for the next party or next night out on the town. If I may offer a little advice without offending everyone. It doesn't take much effort nor cost an arm and leg to look nice, if not exceptional. Start with the basics, the cloth, the color, the cut, and the style.

This track dives into the sterile, high-stakes atmosphere of the "cold white room," where identity is contested and sovereignty is won through the sheer power of the creative fire. It is a soaring, orchestral anthem for anyone who has ever had their reality questioned—and dared to be right.

I'm so excited for this now. This story came together like magic. I struggled with the ending and resolution for over an hour, just contemplating people in my life, stories I've read, my own emotions. Then it came to me, like, how did I not realize it had to end like that.

I'm currently writing Chapter 21, and plan to end the story at Chapter 28. The Story is currently at 31,000 words and should hit 50 I think.

I've been asked for a little clarity on the question of politics

In the current political climate, it can feel dangerous to express an opinion, or even to read someone else's.

BC was intended to be a friendly place to read, write and discuss TG fiction and that will always be its principal mission.

But part of being friendly is feeling safe. Accordingly, I'm going to modify BCs stance on political discussion, a small bit. Such discussion has never been outright prohibited, just frowned on lest it turn into personal attacks and violations of the Three Rules.

BCTS is NOT a political posting site

Look, I get that the "orange arcturian clown" is upsetting a lot of people. Yeah. That is his job. I certainly did not vote for the nut, but he made it in. If you feel the need to post about politics, please choose The Guardian Post, National Enquirer, or Washington Post type of sites to gripe on. They certainly get a lot more views.

BCTS is about writing, and commenting on said stories concerning GTLBQ category.

Can We learn from history?

Can We (as in the human society) learn from history? Are We able — or willing — see how current events are eerily similar to events that happened over 250-260 years ago? Can We see the parallels of what happens in the present with what happened in the past, and crucially how the outcome of the past parallel could be a pretty good predictor for our own short term future?

A little has grown back but is much finer, as is much of the regrowth from the epilator and which I hope will continue to get finer through the epilation.
